Jonathan Galea is a lawyer with involvement in the crypto industry since 2013, having also completed one of the world’s first doctorate of laws theses in 2015 titled “The Effect of Bitcoin on Anti-Money Laundering Laws”.  In 2017 he founded BCAS, a crypto regulatory consultancy firm with clients ranging from crypto exchanges to renowned layer-1 blockchains and blue-chip DeFi projects. Jonathan has consulted numerous regulatory entities across multiple jurisdictions, including the European Banking Authority, the MFSA in Malta, the FSA in Japan, and various governmental entities in Serbia. Having worked on the VFA framework in Malta since its inception, he has also taken an active interest in MiCA since its earliest days, and is seen as one of the leading experts on this Regulation. Furthermore, he is a strong advocate for Bitcoin adoption & open finance.

Patrick is a lawyer by profession. At BCAS, he leads a team of lawyers that advises top-tier crypto asset exchanges and major DeFi projects, assisting them in ensuring compliance with a range of applicable laws. He has several years of experience practicing in the areas of financial services and regulatory compliance, where he handled a number of investment services, funds, crypto asset service providers licenses. He also held various directorships and compliance officer positions.

Patrick was also involved in other fields of law, where he assisted clients with corporate, employment and taxation matters, and contract drafting.

He attended the University of Malta and successfully completed a Doctor of Laws degree, followed by a Master of Arts in Financial Services degree. Patrick also holds a Professional Award in Taxation and a Foundation Certificate in Trusts Law and Management.

Nicholas graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering (Hons) from the University of Malta in 2013. He has since gained experience working in the IT and Telecoms industry, contributing to projects such as the implementation of 4G and HD voice, upgrading core systems, building private 4G networks, working with video technologies and privacy. Presently, Nicholas is focused on analysing technical and business documentation related to crypto projects and conducts research into crypto, distributed networks and blockchain technology.

Martin was born in Argentina, where he studied to become a Lawyer. Afterwards, he did an MBA, which allowed him to start working as a Process Analyst and Project Manager. After moving to Italy, in 2021, he put into practice what had been his passion for the last few years and started writing and researching Web3 technologies for several Web3 projects. He joined BCAS as a Crypto Technical Analyst.

Amanda graduated in 2017 with a BCom (Hons) in Banking and Finance from the University of Malta. She worked at Medirect Bank Plc as a wealth securities officer for 3 years, prior to joining BCAS in April 2021 as a Junior Operations Manager before being promoted to Senior Operations Analyst in October 2022. At BCAS, she assists the Chief Operations Officer with day-to-day tasks and, as well as the compliance team, with onboarding and cross-checking the due diligence documents of clients.

Paulina, a quadrilingual master’s graduate in International Relations, gained valuable professional experience working as a Blue Book trainee for the European Commission in the area of IT projects as well as a HUB Team Leader for one of most distinguished international corporate law firms, DLA Piper. At BCAS, as the Executive Assistant to C-Suite, she provides high-level administrative support and coordinates communication between departments.
